Diving into the tank – Embracing a New Chapter as VP of Engagement at Fishtank

About a month ago, I honestly thought my time in the Sitecore community had come to a close. I was almost certain that my next step would be in helping another product team with their outreach to technical audiences, building on the years of experience leading Sitecore’s Technical Evangelism and Developer Relations efforts. So many folks reached out, and I want to thank all of you gave me their time and advice, and connected me with opportunities that I could explore and look for a fit. I was truly energized and uplifted by all of you!

However, an unexpected opportunity arose from Dan at Fishtank who reached out with an idea that I could not let go of: leading engagement with education at its core. As I explored different opportunities, I kept coming back to my conversations with Dan. They were just too exciting to ignore!

Fishtank has a strong culture of sharing knowledge and building strong customer connections, which fits perfectly with my passion for helping people. In my new role as Vice President of Engagement, I get to join an amazing team and work towards our shared goal of educating and engaging with our digital experience customers. Everyone I’ve met at Fishtank so far has been fantastic, top-notch folks with a great vibe.

What is an Engagement team?

I pride myself on my transparency and my willingness to be honest, so it wouldn’t be right for me to say that this education and engagement is a purely altruistic effort. When it comes down to it, this is going to be about growing the customer base that Fishtank is helping. So what will this team be doing?

In some organizations, you have sales and marketing, or you have a growth team, or a demand gen team, etc. There are a lot of names for different groups that are trying to achieve the ultimate goal: gaining customers.

I mentioned in another post of mine that the data shows that 80-90% of buyers already have a vendor list before doing research, and 90% of those end up choosing from that pre-research list. We want potential customers to see that we know our stuff and can help them, without ever having to talk to us. We want it to be painfully obvious that you can trust us.

It’s going to be an exciting time here at “the tank,” and I’m really looking forward to listening, learning, and figuring out our next steps together as a team! I’ll have more news coming, so make sure to follow me on LinkedIn to get more updates!
